On May 15, 1962, the first modern Mother’s Day was celebrated at the Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church. The white carnation symbolizes the day. It is steeped in ancient Greek traditions, dedicated to Rhea, the Mother Goddess, daughter of Gaia, the Goddess of the Earth. Today, however, it is celebrated on the first Sunday of May. It is dedicated to all our mothers and everything they do for us. It is meant to acknowledge, appreciate and celebrate their sacrifices, the values they imparted, and their strenuous efforts to ensure that we are well placed in life. Kerala Academy of Pharmacy respects the contributions of mothers everywhere.
