Heart valve disease Narrowed or blocked blood vessels that prevent blood from flowing to the heart, brain, or other parts of the body are signs of cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease has the following symptoms:
- Coronary artery disease, which affects the major blood vessels that carry oxygen, nutrients, and blood to the heart.
- A disease that affects the blood vessels that supply the brain is called cerebrovascular disease.
- A condition that affects the blood vessels that supply the arms and legs is known as peripheral artery disease.
- Rheumatic heart disease, which is caused by an infection with streptococcal bacteria and involves damage to the heart muscle and valves.
- Heart defects that are present at birth are known as congenital heart disease.
- Pulmonary embolism: blood clots that form in the veins of the legs have the potential to break loose and travel to the heart and lungs.
A blockage that prevents blood from flowing to the heart or brain is the primary cause of heart attacks and strokes, both of which are dangerous medical conditions. A build-up of fatty deposits on the inner walls of the blood vessels that supply the heart or brain is the most common cause of this blockage. A stroke can also be brought on by blood clots or bleeding from a brain blood vessel.
