World malaria day falls on the 25th of April every year. It’s an annual day awareness event organised by the World Health Organization. This awareness annual event is conducted in order to raise awareness and funds to fight and put an end to an infectious disease called Malaria caused by pathogens presents in mosquitoes. This mosquito vector borne disease is caused by a single celled microbe plasmodium that enters through the blood of a mosquito bite. In the year 2020, more than a quarter billion people were affected by malaria disease and at the least 6 lakh people died due to malaria. Earlier, Malaria was called the African malaria fever, until it spread to Latin America, where it earned the name – malaria. This year 2022’s theme for malaria is Harness innovations to reduce the malaria disease’s burden and save lives. This year 2022 , the WHO and other international organisations have critically commanded to keep funds and allocate more funds to battle malaria and put an end to this vector borne mosquito malaria fever. The symptoms can be mild fever to many usual vector borne disease fever symptoms. Kids suffer the most as they are often in the out without any shield of protection. Dressing up kids in covered clothing during evening and early mornings and applying mosquito repellent cream can validly protect them from this resilient disease. Malaria can be battled by only consistent supportive care as malaria is simple to be prevented. In the ancient Scripture , it is written that disease are caused by only five types of mosquitoes and one such is through the saliva of a mosquito bite that enter and damage the liver. This was foretold in the Vedas that the only cure is siddha cure that prompts the body to take its own immunity defence system. It wasn’t until 1897 until the west came up with the name malaria for this disease caused by the anopheles mosquitoes. President George W Bush on his reign gave a speech and raised awareness citing the African malaria fever that killed millions and called Americans out to support and put an end to malaria, saying it’s a totally preventable disease. Bill gates too was also supporting the end of malaria in key places where the disease was massively spreading and his plan was to create a vector based vector killing mosquitoes, that nullified the disease. Open water systems targeting by Australian government was a step towards niche area concentration of prevention of malaria.
Kerala academy of pharmacy (KAP) also relies on the prevention is better than cure for malaria as Siddha and Ayurveda cure are prime tools to eliminate the disease as inscribed in the ancient scripture. The American African spread of the malaria fever is still prevalent even today, killing millions by the year. It is said half the world population, close to more than 3.5 billion is at the risk of malaria. Stagnation of water is where these mosquitoes breed and if these are concentrated on clarity of adequate chemicals, then it’s humanely possible to stop the breeding of these mosquitoes. Kerala academy of pharmacy along with many worthy institutions around the world has taken a stance to raise awareness on this issue of malaria by asking the government to allocate funds and prioritise on non profit organization to keep malaria at bay. Indian government also has contributed to WHO for finding cure for malaria.
Kerala academy of pharmacy has raised awareness campaign by using its staff and students in uniform to take care of simple prevention steps like wearing mosquito repellent creams and mosquito nets to prevent the spread of disease caused by mosquitoes. Using of neem oil is also a simple prevention act used by our students to prevent mosquitoes as we have taken our base from the early days how sages in the forest prevented this nuisance of mosquitoes. Nowadays, Smoke coils, mosquito repellent liquids, mosquito repellent creams and mosquito banish chips are available in the retail market to prevent mosquito in our immediate environment. Such a simple activity is also a perfect step to prevent malaria and other mosquitoes that causes Dengue, etc.
Kerala academy of pharmacy has taken inspiration from the siddha Ayurveda cure techniques and formed herbal recipes from God’s own country, Kerala that uses water with herbal cures to build up immunity from such vector borne diseases. In this pharmaceutical sector, we also have a lot of immunity drinks that are herbal and ancient in nature and such herbal recipes are formulated following thousands of years of Ayurveda practice . Herbs collected by sages and siddhas are now forming into a magical recipe that cure any number of diseases as like this malaria too is battled in the same manner using the techniques of the sages. This techniques form a base for our pharmaceutical sectors in Kerala academy of pharmacy as we have a controlled herbal sector to help create immune against variety of diseases. The vaccination for malaria is still a dream and this is the main reason why the World Health Organization (WHO) has asked the governments to allocate funds and add a budget for the vaccination for malaria and put an end for malaria. The world can be saved of a million people and a lot of misery of deaths can be avoided by finding a cure for this deadly infectious mosquito vector borne disease.
