World Autism Awareness Day is observed annually on April 2 by the United Nations to raise awareness among the world about Autism Spectrum Disorder. ‘World Autism Awareness Day’ was proposed by Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned, the UN representative from Qatar and consort to Emir Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani. Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The theme for ‘World Autism Awareness Day 2022’ is “Inclusive Quality Education for all”.
It has been observed that with one out of five hundred children in India diagnosed with this medical condition. As early childhood is a critical period for a child’s cognitive development. This year we should ensure a full and productive life to the autistic by giving quality education and lifelong learning opportunities.
In 2007 UN has decided to observe annually World Autism Day in order to give the awareness that;
- Even though Autism can’t cure completely there are treatments which help the people with Autism to improve their self.
- Before trying to change their behaviour or lifestyle everyone should try to understand their situation and perspective.
- Also we should make a better world for them so that as they age they can live with self-sustenance.
According to UN Covid 19 pandemic has exposed many inequalities in the world. The persons who have autism had faced many inequalities since long time which have been inflamed by the pandemic. This will also lead to make the world worse for majority of adults on the autism spectrum. According to UN People with autism should never face discrimination when seeking medical care.
